Forget The Flu!

So, we all know that it is that time of year...the dreadful flu is going around. I am a germaphope and I will go through great lengths to skip it! My theory is to drink TONS of water and exercise daily and you will have a much better chance of fighting it! In some cases, like when you have little ones, it is almost impossible to stay away from it. They will wake up or come home from school saying their stomachs hurt or they have a soar throat. Do not lose hope! According to an NBC news article, a study from Purdue Universtiy shows that about 10 miles of jogging/running a week can strengthen your immune system (That is 2 miles-5 days a week). The study also showed that when you over exert yourself it may cause you to be at more of a risk during the flu season than usual so be cautious of how much is TOO much for your body. I don't know if you have ever paid any attention but after a run I always get a good nose cleanse! I like to think that I am getting all the germs out because they say germs are passed through the areas connected to our sinuses and that would include our noses! It feels so good to know that I realease toxins in my body with every workout session. So, here is another GREAT reason to get out and exercise! I think we can all take 30 min. of our 24 hour day to focus on making sure we are taking care of our bodies. Please check out the NBC article below and stay healthy this year!

Weight Of The World

Posted by ecurtas_123 on November 11, 2013 at 10:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Recently I went through a pretty tough situation. As time goes on the wounds close up more. I decided that instead of letting it get the best of me I'd kick it in the BUTT! The point of this blog post is not to talk about my situation but to explain how you can choose to become stronger through those difficult times. Do not EVER let a person destroy you with words. I decided to take charge in my situation and instead of waisting tears I go out for a run or go to the gym for a while. I have never had a work out session that I regretted and in my eyes exercise is the BEST way to break down and let go. You can only become better by making sure you are taking care of your body. When you are feeling depressed try not to turn to food because in the end you will only become more depressed with the extra pounds you have gained. In other cases, stressful life situations can cause extreme weight loss. Remember to stay healthy and eat well. When you are feeding your body with clean foods you will also see your stress levels go down and your energy levels go up. I hope to encourage all of you to grab hold of your situation and conquer it by motivating yourself to be better, healthier, stonger, and most important...be YOU! :D

Moderation is Key!

Whenever I feel like I need to shed a few pounds, I tend to be very strict with myself and not take time to truly enjoy life during that process. What I have found is that it actually makes it more difficult when I do not allow for the foods I really enjoy. When we say no to things we love it causes stress and when stress is added it makes it tough to lose those unwanted pounds. Diet? That word alone is for the birds! Diets are meant to be broken and starving our bodies of particular food groups will NOT give us the results we really want. Instead of "dieting" try looking at it as a way of life. We want to enjoy life and live it to the fullest, right? I am not going to give up pumkin pie at Thanksgiving just because it is fattening! I am going to thoroughly enjoy every part of the Holidays but I am also going to make sure I do it in MODERATION and with exercise daily! See, those two things together are key to being healthy and staying fit. I will say that you should not just simply pig out. Learn how to understand your body and when you do you will know when you've had enough and you are still comfortable. Do not STUFF yourself. I do not know anyone who likes the feeling that they are about to burst the buttons on their pants. When you have had what you love and you are still able to feel comfortable then you have done well :)

Be Fit Be Happy

Being fit is not a simple process. It takes a lot of hard work. We all have different body types and some of us go insane by trying to watch every little thing that goes into our mouths. Yes, it is very important to "watch what you eat" but not in the way most people mean it. So many people are so concerned with calories or fat grams; we find ourselves always thinking "200 calories?? I can't have that" Oh and what are those little packets? "100 calorie pack" Those foods are not necessarily healthy and just because it only has 100 calories does NOT mean you won't gain weight from it. Being fit to me is making sure that I get all the essential food groups on a daily basis and exercising daily. Try asking yourself if what you are about to eat is an essential? Will it benefit your body in the long run? Will you feel better after you eat it? You may be surprised at how wonderful you can feel just by starting your day off with the right food. Who wouldn't want a delicious omelette with spinach and Feta cheese little crumbled on top? That sounds gourmet to me and it will give me the energy I need to get through that first part of the day! If you like to snack, great! Keep a bag of raw almonds near and mix a few craisins in to satisfy that sweet tooth! It isn't bad to eat. We have to take care of our bodies and that means feeding them well. Drink a lot of water and get a few minutes of cardio in each day and you'll be shocked at how much it will change your day! :)

Stress, Food and Exercise

Posted by ecurtas_123 on October 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM Comments comments (0)

When feeling stressed it is so easy to turn to food for satisfaction and comfort. This isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes our favorite foods can help to reduce the level of stress we are facing but moderation is the key! When stress comes apon us our adrenaline level is raised. The increse in our adrenaline level will give us a burst of energy but it also lowers our blood sugar level and thats when we feel the need to replenish our body with food. It is so important to know what foods to put into our body while stressed because with proper nutrition we can be prepared to face whatever challenges our day may throw at us. Fiber, Protein and Carbohydrates are all key nutrients to keep up going through the day. Exercise is also an essential to reduce our stress level. When we sweat we are releasing endorphins and when these are released our adrenaline level decreases leaving us feeling refreshed and ready to take on another challenge!

Here is my favorite way to stay in shape and stress free!

The above link is to Livestrong.com. It gives a few very helpful tips to creating a nutrition plan that works great with the "runners" body! I love to run and whenever I get the chance I am signed up for a half marathon. Running is my therapy and God willing I will be able to continue running for as long as possible because without it I'd be a train wreck! Being a runner requires a lot of knowledge about nutrition. If I don't feed my body the right nutrients, my ability to run is decreased significantly. Read the information on this link and learn how to make sure you can have the highest level of energy possible!
